Breathtaking Maui scenery, optimal sportfishing conditions, impeccably maintained and outfitted 42' (loa) Bertram sportfisher and an experienced and courteous crew. Put it all together and you’ve begun to picture your Maui sport fishing experience aboard Start Me Up. Whether you’re a novice or experienced sportfishing enthusiast, you’ll discover that deep sea fishing off Maui Hawaii is unlike any other sportfishing experience you’ve ever had. Nothing exemplifies the Hawaiian lifestyle like a day on the water.
Start Me Up is a high-end 42' Bertram equipped with the finest tackel, plus an air conditioned cabin and bathroom. Non-fishing passengers will find it very comfortable. The scenery is spectacular and a camera is recommended. Anglers will target big game fish, particularly blue marlin, striped marlin, and black marlin, ahi, kawakawa, skipjack (tuna), mahi mahi, ono (wahoo), and spear fish. Location depends on a number of factors such as weather patterns, recent bite locations and sheer gut instinct. Charters typically leave early in the morning (5:30am) from Lahaina Harbor.
Passengers will need to arrange for their own food and beverages for the day. The boat will supply all the ice and fishing gear.
While many sport fishing companies in Hawaii will tell you “the fish has to stay with the boat,” Start Me Up’s policy is exactly the opposite. If you catch it, you can keep it! The crew will even filet enough fish for you and your party to enjoy a seafood dinner. There are no canning/processing/shipping facilities on Maui. If you don’t want to keep your fish, you can also choose to have it mounted, tag and release or give it to the crew – just ask your captain for more information.
Other added benefits are the fabulous tropical sunrises, whale watching, maybe a spinner dolphin playing in the wake. A Maui sport fishing adventure from Lahaina may take you around the islands of Lanai, Molokai, Kahoolawe or Molokini, offering a fishing guest a rare experience afforded only a few of Hawaii’s visitors!
All the game fish are caught on the troll. Trolling is when one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. The fishing rods are placed in rod holders and the lines are set with the lures at varying distances behind the boat held apart by the outriggers to avoid line tangling. Trolling speed varies depending on water and weather conditions. The ideal position of the bait is skimming on the surface of the water to mimic the behavior of an injured or fast moving fish, this is what attracts the game fish we are targeting.
